The university of Kashmir is the pride of Kashmir valley. It has emerged as a knowledge and learning hub for the people of the entire state as well as students from other states. It is counted among the most prestigious universities in India today. This university was founded in 1948 just after 1 year after India’s independence with the motive to educate people and build a peaceful and educated society over there. In the year 1969, it was divided into 2 independent universities namely as University of Kashmir and University of Jammu.
The university of Kashmir is situated at Hazratbal in Main Srinagar. It has the world famous Dal Lake on its eastern side and Nigeen lake on the western side, the best scenic set up any university can wish for. The main campus is of about 247 acres which are equipped with modern day facilities and several parks for students to study.
Directorate of Distance Education of Kashmir University was established in 1976 with a mission to provide education to the people of the state who are unable to join any regular course because of the difficult lifestyle over there. The main campus of DDE consists of a fully equipped library, classrooms with modern day facilities, lecture rooms, computer labs etc.

Admission Procedure
The university of Kashmir accepts an application from all over India and the world. Admissions are done purely on merit basis irrespective of Caste, Religion. Sex etc. These courses do not have a limit on age and number of students in a course because they are based on open learning module so they come with the course material which students can read and learn at their home and according to their convenience.
The admission procedure requires the candidate to fill up the application form which can be downloaded from University website or can be obtained from University office. After candidate fills out the form then it has to be submitted to the university office via post or by in person. After submission of the form, applicant’s eligibility is tested and only if he passes out all the requirements for the course and submits proper documents he is awarded the admission.
