SNDT Women’s University is a very unique university because it is India’s first woman university and lies in the South-East Asia. It was a great step, taken by the university founder Maharashi Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve towards women empowerment and women education. This university is proving to be a best aid in educating the women of our country so that they become independent and can lead our society as equal as with men. This thought led to the formation of this university in the year 1916. This university has dedicated itself towards women’s education and building an equal society since its beginning.
The university main campus is at Churchgate Campus, Mumbai and it has also opened other two campuses in Juhu, Mumbai and Karve Road, Pune. Mahatama Gandhi himself presided over the first annual convocation of this university along with Sardar Patel, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Sarojni Naidu. Earlier this university was named as Indian Women’s University but later on it got changed to Shreemati Nathibhai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University.
