Few months back University had stopped taking new admission into various distance education courses because DEC approval was pending for renewal. We'd also published a post about the SMU DEC renewal issue. Recently the university has announced on it's website that they're inviting applications for new admissions. Read below what notice they've published.
SMU DDE has commenced admissions to all approved programs pursuant to the Order of the Hon'ble High Court of Sikkim (in WP No. 4 of 2013) dated 22.2.2013, by which the Hon'ble Court has permitted the University to continue acting in terms of earlier recognition, namely, recognition dated 15.10.2009 granted by DEC.Please note, existing students was not suffered because of this & examination & classes for existing students were running on time.
As we know to run any distance education course in India, an approval from distance education council of India (DEC) is required & universities & institutions has to renew this approval on time to offer uninterrupted distance education.
SMU was not taking new admissions after 15.10.2012 because of this. The University applied on 10.7.2012 itself for a renewal of the said Approval.
